The short answer

Best tiger odds
Ranthambore
Best scenery and birdlife
Corbett
Easiest with the Golden Triangle
Ranthambore
Closed for monsoon
Both, mostly July to September

These are the two tiger reserves most visitors from Delhi consider. Both are excellent, but they offer quite different experiences.

Ranthambore is open, dry forest dotted with lakes and the ruins of a hilltop fort, where tigers are relatively easy to see. Corbett, India's oldest national park, is a denser, greener forest at the foot of the Himalaya, with wild elephants and the chance to stay overnight inside the park.

Choose Ranthambore if...

  • Seeing a tiger is your main goal.
  • You are doing the Golden Triangle: Ranthambore fits neatly between Jaipur and Agra.
  • You love dramatic scenery with history: the fort and old pavilions make unforgettable backdrops.

Choose Corbett if...

  • You want a wilder forest experience and a night inside the park.
  • Elephants and birds matter as much as tigers.
  • You are combining wildlife with Rishikesh, Haridwar or the hills of Uttarakhand.

Can you do both?

Yes, on a trip of 10 days or more: Delhi, Corbett, back to Delhi, then the Golden Triangle with Ranthambore. Most visitors pick one, because each park needs at least two nights and three or four safaris to give a good chance of a sighting.
