Overview

Start your journey from Shinjuku Terminal, surrounded by skyscrapers in the heart of Tokyo, and leave the busy city behind to experience the real countryside of Japan. Spend 2 nights in the mountain village of Tabayama, enjoy local food at TABA CAFE, relax in a natural hot spring, catch and grill your own fish, and explore scenic roads by e-bike. This is a slow-paced, authentic rural experience with local support throughout your stay.

Day by day itinerary

  1. 1WELCOME TO TABAYAMA-ARRIVAL & LOCAL INTRODUCTION⌄

Relax in the hot springs at Nomekoi-yu, a village-run onsen. Cross the bridge over the Taba River to reach the facility.

Enjoy a relaxing fishing experience at a village-run fishing pond surrounded by the mountains of Tabayama. Catch your own fish and experience a simple countryside activity enjoyed by local visitors. Kei will arrange admission and fishing equipment, making it easy even for first-time anglers. After you catch your fish, it will be prepared and grilled for you. The grilling process takes approximately one hour, giving you time to slow down and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of rural Japan. Take a walk along the nearby river, explore the surrounding area, enjoy the mountain scenery, take photos, or simply relax and enjoy a quiet moment away from the crowds of Tokyo. When your fish is ready, return to enjoy a freshly grilled meal that you caught yourself. Rather than rushing from one activity to another, this experience lets you enjoy the slower pace of life that makes Tabayama Village special.

Overnight: TABA Center is a village-run accommodation with simple rooms, a shared kitchen, showers, and a quiet natural setting.

  2. 2DISCOVER TABAYAMA YOUR WAY – E-BIKE & NATURE DAY⌄

Ride through quiet village roads, pass traditional homes, forests, and mountain scenery, and experience a slower side of Japan that most travelers never see. With an E-bike, you can comfortably explore the area at your own pace while enjoying fresh mountain air and beautiful natural surroundings. Start the day with two locally made chimaki (traditional bamboo leaf-wrapped sticky rice dumplings) and hot coffee before cycling along Route 411. Along the way, stop at scenic viewpoints, natural spring water, and quiet mountain bridges before enjoying an easy forest hike to a hidden local shrine. This experience is not about rushing from place to place. It is about slowing down, connecting with nature, enjoying local flavors, and discovering the charm of a small Japanese mountain village. Whether you enjoy cycling, photography, hiking, or simply escaping the crowds of Tokyo, this day offers a unique opportunity to experience authentic Rural Japan.

Meals: Breakfast: Two locally made chimaki (traditional Japanese sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves) and hot coffee are included.

Overnight: Stay another night at TABA Center and enjoy a peaceful countryside stay.

  3. 3FAREWELL TO TABAYAMA-Morning E-Bike Ride & Return to Tokyo⌄

On your final morning, enjoy one last E-bike ride through the peaceful roads of Tabayama Village. Visit hidden corners of the village, riverside viewpoints, and local landmarks while taking in the fresh mountain air. Say goodbye to rural Japan and return to the city with unforgettable memories.

Before returning to Tokyo, spend some free time around Okutama Station. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, try regional craft beer, browse souvenir shops, or take a short walk to nearby shrines and riverside areas. This final stop offers a gentle transition from the quiet mountains of Tabayama back to city life, allowing you to enjoy one last taste of rural Japan before heading back to Shinjuku.
