Day 1 – Cape Town to Hermanus via the Scenic Whale Coast Our adventure begins with a collection from your preferred location in Cape Town, where we set off along one of South Africa's most spectacular coastal routes. Leaving the city behind, we travel towards False Bay, with beautiful views of the ocean and the surrounding mountains. Our journey takes us along the famous Clarence Drive (R44), a breathtaking coastal road winding between towering mountains and the sparkling waters of False Bay. With numerous scenic viewpoints along the way, there will be opportunities to stop, take photographs and appreciate the natural beauty of this remarkable coastline. We continue through the charming coastal villages of Rooi-Els, Pringle Bay and Betty's Bay, where guests have the option of visiting the Stony Point African penguin colony. Here, African penguins can be observed in their natural coastal habitat, offering a wonderful wildlife experience and excellent photographic opportunities. Continuing along the Whale Coast, we make our way towards the beautiful seaside town of Hermanus, famous for its dramatic cliffs, pristine ocean views and exceptional whale-watching opportunities. During whale season, generally June to November, southern right whales can often be seen from the shoreline as they visit Walker Bay to breed and nurse their calves. Once in Hermanus, we'll enjoy a leisurely walk along the famous Cliff Path, taking in magnificent views across the bay. There will also be time to explore the town's shops, cafés and restaurants. After a wonderful first day exploring the coastline, we check into our accommodation in the heart of Hermanus. Overnight: Zzzone Boutique Hotel, Hermanus. Day 2 – Hermanus to Plettenberg Bay via the Garden Route After breakfast, we depart Hermanus and continue east towards the world-famous Garden Route, one of South Africa's most beautiful and diverse travel destinations. Our journey takes us through the rolling hills and agricultural landscapes of the Overberg before reaching the scenic countryside of the Southern Cape. Along the way, we'll pass through charming towns, farmland, forests and mountain landscapes, with opportunities for refreshments and photographic stops. For guests interested in an unforgettable wildlife encounter, we offer an optional visit to Knysna Elephant Park, situated near Plettenberg Bay. This sanctuary provides an opportunity to observe elephants at close range while learning about their behaviour, individual personalities and the conservation and care of these magnificent animals. Available elephant encounters are subject to the park's operating guidelines and animal-welfare policies. We continue towards the picturesque seaside town of Plettenberg Bay, affectionately known as Plett. Famous for its golden beaches, turquoise waters, spectacular coastal views and relaxed holiday atmosphere, Plettenberg Bay is one of the Garden Route's most popular destinations. We end the day at our beachfront accommodation, with the evening free to enjoy one of the town's many restaurants. Overnight: Beachfront accommodation in Plettenberg Bay. Day 3 – Plettenberg Bay, Tsitsikamma & Sundays River Valley Today we explore some of the Garden Route's most spectacular natural attractions before continuing towards the Eastern Cape and Addo Elephant National Park. After breakfast, we depart Plettenberg Bay and travel towards The Crags, an area known for its beautiful indigenous forests and wildlife sanctuaries. Guests have the option of visiting two of the region's most popular attractions. Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary Enjoy a guided walk through a beautiful forest sanctuary where a variety of free-roaming primates, including monkeys and lemurs, can be observed in a natural forest environment. This experience offers an interesting insight into primate behaviour and conservation. Birds of Eden Situated nearby, Birds of Eden is a spectacular free-flight bird sanctuary set within an enormous forested enclosure. Wander along elevated walkways and forest paths while discovering an incredible variety of colourful birds from around the world. Guests may choose one or both of these attractions, depending on their interests and the time available. From here, we continue towards the magnificent Tsitsikamma National Park, where ancient indigenous forests meet the dramatic rocky coastline of the Indian Ocean. An optional visit to the Storms River Mouth section of the park provides an opportunity to explore this remarkable coastal environment. Guests can enjoy scenic forest walks, admire the powerful ocean waves crashing against the cliffs and, conditions permitting, walk to the famous Storms River suspension bridge. After our coastal exploration, we continue east through the Eastern Cape countryside towards the Sundays River Valley. Our destination is Avoca River Cabins, situated among the peaceful citrus-growing landscapes of the Sundays River Valley, close to Addo Elephant National Park. Overnight: Avoca River Cabins, Sundays River Valley. Day 4 – Addo Elephant National Park Wildlife Safari Our final day is dedicated to one of South Africa's most remarkable wildlife destinations, Addo Elephant National Park. After breakfast, we depart our accommodation and make our way into the national park for an unforgettable guided wildlife experience. Originally established to protect the region's dwindling elephant population, Addo has grown into one of South Africa's most important conservation areas and is now home to more than 600 elephants. Travelling through the park in our private safari vehicle, we'll explore a variety of habitats, from open grasslands and dense Albany thicket to natural waterholes where wildlife regularly gathers. Addo is particularly famous for its incredible elephant sightings. Watching these magnificent animals interacting around waterholes, bathing in muddy pools or moving through the bush in family groups is an experience that few visitors ever forget. In addition to elephants, the park is home to Cape buffalo, zebra, kudu, red hartebeest, warthog and a variety of smaller mammals. With a little luck, we may also encounter some of the park's more elusive predators, including lions. As we travel through the reserve, your experienced private guide will share fascinating insights into animal behaviour, the surrounding ecosystem and the conservation efforts that have helped protect this remarkable wilderness. Being a private guided experience, we have the freedom to spend time at interesting sightings, observe animal behaviour and enjoy excellent photographic opportunities without the pressure of travelling in a large group. During the day, we'll stop at one of the park's designated rest areas for refreshments and an opportunity to stretch our legs. After a rewarding day exploring Addo Elephant National Park, we make our way out of the reserve and conclude our four-day adventure with a convenient drop-off at your preferred location in the Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) or Addo area, as arranged in advance. End of tour: Addo / Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) – drop-off at your prearranged location.
