Day by day itinerary
1Nagoya – Magome – Nakasendo Trail – Tsumago⌄
Begin your journey in Magome-juku, a historic post town along the Nakasendo. Explore its sloping stone-paved street, traditional wooden buildings, local shops and mountain scenery. Enjoy time to walk through the town, take photographs and experience the atmosphere of an Edo-period travelers' town before beginning the Nakasendo hike. Guests explore independently. The driver does not provide guided sightseeing commentary.
Walk independently along one of the most popular preserved sections of the historic Nakasendo. The Magome–Tsumago route is approximately 8–9 km and normally takes 2.5–3 hours, depending on walking speed, rest breaks and trail conditions. The route passes forest paths, old stone-paved sections, mountain scenery and traditional rural settlements. Starting from Magome generally involves less uphill walking than hiking in the opposite direction. The driver will drop you off near the starting point, reposition the vehicle and meet you at the confirmed pickup location near Tsumago. This is an independent hiking experience. No hiking guide or driver accompaniment is included. Guests must be comfortable navigating the trail independently. The hike may be shortened, replaced or cancelled due to heavy rain, snow, ice, trail closures or other safety conditions.
Explore Tsumago-juku, one of the best-preserved historic post towns along the Nakasendo. Walk along its traditional streets lined with wooden buildings, historic houses, local shops and restaurants. Enjoy the atmosphere of this preserved Edo-period town at your own pace, with time for photography, refreshments or independent sightseeing. Vehicle access to the historic center is restricted, so the driver may meet you at a designated parking or pickup area.
2Tsumago/Nagiso – Narai-juku – Optional Kiso-Fukushima – Nagoya⌄
After pickup from your accommodation, continue through the Kiso Valley to Narai-juku. Narai is known for its long, well-preserved historic streetscape, traditional wooden buildings, local craft shops and cafés. Walk along the old Nakasendo street and discover the atmosphere of a former Edo-period post town. Unlike the previous day's forest hiking experience, Narai offers a relaxed opportunity to explore traditional architecture, local products and town life. Time may also be used for lunch at a local restaurant.
If the schedule and traffic conditions allow, stop in Kiso-Fukushima before returning to Nagoya. Explore part of this historic Nakasendo town, known for its connection to the old highway and the Kiso Valley's Edo-period history. Guests may enjoy a short independent walk, photography or a refreshment break. This is an optional stop and cannot be guaranteed. Priority will be given to Narai-juku and returning to Nagoya within the booked service time.
