Hike two distinct mountain routes through pine and oak forests, dramatic rock formations, and panoramic highland landscapes, reaching elevations over 3,200 m (10,500 ft). Along the way, experience community life, enjoy traditional meals prepared locally, and spend the night in a cozy private mountain cabin with a fireplace. With a maximum of six travelers, this small-group adventure combines beautiful hikes, nature, local culture, and time to unwind in the mountains.

Day by day itinerary

  1. 1Cloud Forest Hike & Village Experience⌄

    Traditional Breakfast: Stop at a local family eatery in the Sierra Norte for a traditional breakfast of memelas and coffee before beginning the hike.

    Cloud Forest Hike: Explore the Sierra Norte highlands on an 8 km (5 mi) guided hike through cloud forest, with ferns, agaves, pine and oak trees, rock formations and panoramic mountain views.

    Traditional Oaxacan Lunch: Enjoy a homemade lunch prepared by a local family after the hike.

    Free Afternoon in the Mountain Village: After lunch, settle into your private cabin and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your own pace. Optional activities such as the suspension bridge, zipline, massage or traditional limpia are available locally at an additional cost.

    Overnight: Overnight in a private cozy mountain cabin surrounded by the Sierra Norte forest, with a bathroom and fireplace.

  2. 2Full-Day Mountain Hike⌄

    Traditional Breakfast: Start the day with a traditional breakfast in the mountain village before heading out for the day's hike.

    Full-Day Mountain Hike: Set out on a 14 km (8.7 mi) guided hike across the Sierra Norte highlands, following mountain trails through pine and oak forests, with dramatic changes in landscape and sweeping views along the way. Your guide will share insights into the environment, traditions and communities that have protected these mountains for generations.

    Traditional Oaxacan Lunch: After completing the hike, enjoy a homemade traditional Oaxacan lunch prepared locally before returning to Oaxaca City. Expected arrival in Oaxaca City is around 4:00–5:00 PM on Day 2.
