Day by day itinerary

  1. 1Broome to Windjana Gorge⌄

    Pass through the small coastal town of Derby as you leave Broome behind and head into the Kimberley.

    Stand beside the famous Boab Prison Tree, a giant hollow boab near Derby, and hear the story behind its name.

    Watch the ancient Napier Range rise from the plains as you head to camp for your first night under the Kimberley stars.

  2. 2Windjana Gorge to Bell Gorge⌄

    Start early with a walk beneath the towering limestone walls of Windjana Gorge, carved through the ancient Napier Range and a great place to spot freshwater crocodiles and birdlife.

    Travel the legendary Gibb River Road, one of Australia's great outback drives, through wide open cattle country.

    Walk down to Bell Gorge (Dalmanyi), where a waterfall spills into beautiful natural pools, and cool off with a swim in one of the West Kimberley's best spots.

  3. 3Manning Gorge and Galvans Gorge⌄

    Spend time exploring Manning Gorge, with its rugged cliffs, sandy banks and refreshing waterholes, perfect for a swim.

    Take a short walk to Galvans Gorge, a secluded oasis framed by rocky cliffs and bushland, and enjoy a dip in its peaceful waterhole.

  4. 4Gibb River Road to Kununurra⌄

    Continue along the Gibb River Road past vast cattle stations and rugged ranges, taking in classic Kimberley scenery.

    Follow a rewarding trail through the dramatic Cockburn Ranges to Emma Gorge, where a waterfall drops into a natural swimming hole.

  5. 5Mirima National Park and Lake Argyle⌄

    Enjoy a leisurely morning stroll through Mirima National Park (Hidden Valley), a place often described as a mini Bungle Bungles.

    Cruise the vast, island-dotted waters of Lake Argyle at sunset. Look out for rock wallabies, freshwater crocodiles and birdlife, then watch the sun sink behind the Carr Boyd Ranges with a drink in hand.

  6. 6Bungle Bungles scenic flight⌄

    Soar over the Ord Irrigation Area, Lake Kununurra and the full expanse of Lake Argyle, with views of the Carr Boyd and Osmand Ranges on your way into Purnululu.

    Land at a remote airstrip deep in the park and join a guided Domes Walk, weaving between the striped, beehive-shaped domes of the Bungle Bungle Range.

    Walk the sandy bed of Piccaninny Creek into Cathedral Gorge, a huge natural amphitheatre with amazing acoustics, and enjoy lunch while learning about the traditional custodians and the Kimberley's six seasons.

    Spot the former Argyle Diamond Mine from above on your scenic flight back to Kununurra.

  7. 7Kununurra to Fitzroy Crossing⌄

    Travel west along the Great Northern Highway and watch the landscape shift as you leave the east Kimberley behind.

    Take a short walk along the Fitzroy River beneath the towering limestone cliffs of Geikie Gorge, or join an optional boat cruise (extra cost) to spot freshwater crocodiles.

  8. 8Fitzroy Crossing to Broome⌄
