|---|---|---|---|
| Paradise Cave | Wooden walkway through huge chambers | Easy, many steps | Half day |
| Phong Nha Cave | Boat along an underground river | Easy | Half day |
| Dark Cave | Zipline, swim and mud bath | Moderate | Half day |

Son Doong: what you need to know
- The only licensed operator is Oxalis Adventure; the expedition costs about US$3,000 per person.
- Places are strictly limited and sell out many months ahead.
- Expeditions run in the dry season, roughly January to August.
- You need a high level of fitness, with long days of trekking and climbing on rough ground.
Tip: If Son Doong is out of reach, the two day Hang En trek gives a taste of camping inside a giant cave.
When to go and getting there
March to August is the main season. From September to December heavy rain and floods can close caves and boat trips. Fly to Dong Hoi from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, or travel by road or train from Hue in about 3.5 to 4 hours. Two nights near the park is ideal.
