Nepal trip ideas

Starting points, not fixed packages. Choose one, combine two or describe something completely different.

Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara

8 to 10 days

The classic first visit with no trekking needed. Explore the old royal squares of the Kathmandu Valley, look for rhinos on a jeep safari in Chitwan, then relax by the lake in Pokhara with views of the Annapurna range.

Everest Base Camp trek

12 to 15 days

Fly to Lukla and walk through Sherpa villages to the foot of the world's highest mountain. A private trek lets you add extra acclimatisation days, choose more comfortable lodges or swap in the Gokyo Lakes.

Annapurna short treks

5 to 10 days

Ghorepani and Poon Hill can be done in four or five days from Pokhara, with a famous sunrise over Dhaulagiri and Annapurna South. Add a few more days to reach Annapurna Base Camp, surrounded by peaks on every side.

Langtang Valley

7 to 10 days

The closest big trek to Kathmandu, reached by road with no internal flight. Quieter than Everest, with Tamang villages, yak pastures and glaciers above Kyanjin Gompa.

Upper Mustang

12 to 15 days

What your specialist can customize

Tell us what matters to you in the planner and your Nepal itinerary will be built around it.

  • Your own guide

A private licensed guide, and porters if you want them, who walk at your pace.

  • Where you sleep

Simple teahouses, comfortable lodges or boutique hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

  • Fly or drive

Internal flights to save time, or private road transfers to see more of the country.

  • Rest and acclimatisation

Extra days at altitude, a spare day for flight delays, or a slower start after a long journey.

  • Add-ons

Chitwan safari, Lumbini, a mountain flight, white water rafting or a few days in Bhutan or Tibet.

  • Your dates

Start on any day that suits you rather than a fixed group departure.

When to go to Nepal

October to November
Clear skies and the best mountain views. The busiest time on the main trails.
December to February
Cold nights at altitude but quiet trails. Lower treks and Chitwan are very pleasant.
March to May
Warmer weather and rhododendron forests in flower. Views can turn hazy by May.
June to September
Monsoon rain and leeches on most trails. Upper Mustang sits in a rain shadow and is a good choice.

Custom Nepal tour questions

How much does a custom Nepal tour cost?

It depends on the length of your trip, the standard of hotels and lodges, whether you fly or drive, and how many people are travelling. Tell us a rough budget in the planner and the specialist will design around it and quote in your currency. Asking for a quote is free.

Do I need a guide to trek in Nepal?

Since 2023 Nepal has required most foreign trekkers in its national parks and conservation areas to walk with a licensed guide, and restricted areas such as Upper Mustang have always needed one. Rules can differ by region and change from season to season, so your specialist will confirm what applies to your route and arrange the permits.

How fit do I need to be?

Poon Hill and the Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara circuit suit most active travellers. Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp involve several days of walking at high altitude, so regular walking or hill training in the months before you go makes a big difference. Mention your experience in the planner and the itinerary will be paced to match.

Can you plan a trip for a family or an older group?

Yes. Private trips are often the best option for families and mixed ages, because the pace, walking distances and hotel standard can all be adjusted. Shorter treks, Chitwan and Pokhara work well with children.

Who will plan my trip?

We pass your request to a trusted local travel specialist for Nepal, who replies directly with an itinerary and price. There is no obligation to book, and you only pay if you decide to go ahead.
